A pillar of strength

Last night, I spent time with a family I met many years ago. The father was a soldier in the Soviet/Russian military. He fled his country when he refused to murder innocent civilians in Chechnya, leaving behind his wife and two children. I knew him during the three years he was working endlessly to bring his family to America. He told me stories about how his family was being harassed by his fellow comrades after he refused his orders in a small village where hundreds of people were being slaughtered. His son witnessed one man murder the family dog in their yard.

Now, his family is living at peace here in America. His son graduated from high school last year and his daughter is about to enter high school. His family lives in a beautiful house and both he and his wife are business owners.

When things in my life seem insurmountable, I think of this man and what he went through. Of all the people I have known in my life, he is the strongest, most loving, and passionate of them all. Kudos to this family and those who are righteous in the face of evil!

Wow! Thanks for sharing this story. I'm glad to hear they're doing so well after all they've been through.
