Office Supply Fetish

I confess. I have a fetish for office supplies. I know that there are many people who might claim to have a similar liking for trips to an office supply store to grab some pens and maybe a few Postits, but I have a fetish. When I walk into an office supply store I am like Augustus Gloop in the chocolate factory.

The most outrageous office supply I have ever owned… page protectors. You know, those little round stickers that look like mini donuts? One of my ex-girlfriends (a.ka. "Dreamer") found me using them and harassed me endlessly. I know I have it bad because instead of laughing with her, I tried to defend their practicality.

The coolest office supplies I own are a collection (yes, a collection) of Japanese erasers. Japan has the best office supplies in the world. Their erasers are outrageously fun and often very funny. Office supply stores are everywhere in Japan and I was sure to check out as many as possible. I had to ship a box of goodies I collected back to the U.S. at the end of my trip.

After signing paperwork for my new teaching job, I rushed to the office supply store to stock up on some new supplies. Most of the purchases were necessary, except my newfound toy. Ever since I lived in Japan I have been using one brand of pen for all my writing needs (minus my super cool, sold only in Japan, mechanical pencil, which I still have). I have switched to a pen that has somewhat of a hold on my fellow grad students at Corn U. I am now using the Pilot Precise V5/7. One of the professors at Corn U uses them often and most (if not all) of her followers have their own stash. Now I understand the fascination with these pens. Way cool! Now I need to do something with the mass of old Zebra pens that are cluttering my pen/pencil/eraser drawer…

You're not alone in your office supply fetish.

BTW: eBay is a great place to by those Pilot Precise V5/7 pens. I bought some last winter and I think I got 25 of 'em for about $15.

Just trying to help you save money on your addiction...
